Stuff from Stephers

I used to share a blog with Melissa, but she's been MIA for a few months, so I made it all mine! Random thoughts on my every day life to bore you with.

Happy Almost End of the Holiday Season!

I notice that nobody has been posting over break, but I'm back and if anyone is bored I thought they might need something to read. That and I just want to babble. Last night we had the most fabulous girls night where we drank wine, snacked (Jocelyn, my friends loved your hummus), and did one of my favorite activities - reading the ad's on Craigslist. OK, that sounds boring, but we read the Casual Encounters section, and that is hilarious. If you've never seen it, you should go read them because it's seriously funny. My Christmas at home was pretty good. Except for the fact that I spent a total of 14 hours wrapping presents. And I gained about 8 pounds. I got a lot of fun stuff, and Saffy got this totally cute T-shirt. That was probably the thing that excited me most. My mom is also making me a winter wreath to hang outside. It's all glittery and pretty. I'd list all my presents but my mom would say someone was going to come rob my apartment if I did that, so I won't. Since I've been back I've been working on painting my bookshelves black (although I really think my dad gave me a can of paint that says black but really contains midnight blue, but whatever) and unpacking some more stuff. I got a letter from the MAC program in which the director told me I didn't get the fellowship I applied for. I don't know if she was just trying to make me feel better, but she said that they considered me to be in the top tier of MAC students, which I should be proud of. So there you go - you guys know a top tier student, be proud! Now it's time to get ready for New Years Eve and then the holiday season is officially over for another year!

It's new to me

OK, I apparently missed this somewhere, but Katherine Heigl (Izzy on Grey's Anatomy) is engaged to this guy. You can get the story here. It's apparently way old, but I was looking at the photo today, and OMG is that HAIR coming out of his shirt? Or does he have some sort of undershirt on? If he can get engaged, what is so bad about me?! OK, I know, I'm not a rich singer. But, I also don't have hair growing out from under my clothes!

You're gonna think this is ridiculous

So everyone knows I'm moving at the end of December right? Well, WRONG. I just called and cancelled my move. Of course I waste the app. fee for me and my guarantor (sorry for making you get all that stuff together so fast Barbara), and the $50 hold fee, but....for all the deposit money I'd lose if I moved, it doesn't make as much of a dent. I was just thinking that if I do indeed go to a doctoral program, I'd just have to move again in a year. And I have begun talking to the man in charge at SHSU and I'm getting more and more excited about doing that. I have way too much furniture to move, and I love my neighbors. It actually makes me feel safer that my neighbors know me and my dog. Yeah, there are things that I don't like (like that whole roach in the pants episode), but there are things about the other place that I don't like. Like an ugly small kitchen, and no storage on the patio. And a patio that my dog probably couldn't hang out on because she could escape. And the neighborhood probably isn't as good for safety or running (no hills?!) It backs up to a high school and the leasing lady told me that I'd be able to hear the band practice in the mornings. Who thinks I can study with that? I wasn't feeling excited, and I had to force myself to pack unlike all the other times we moved. So, what I'm trying to say is that I have a lot of boxes and I actually did have a lot of stuff packed. Which, if anyone wants to come help me unpack and redecorate my apartment, I'd love the help. I'm apparently at a point in my life when it's hard to make the "right" decision and sometimes the wrong ones create a little bit of extra work.

Miscellaneum

Maybe it's cause Barbara and Misty were discussing the books, but I've taken to calling my dog my "hairy daughter" in a British accent so that it sounds like Harry Potter. It's hilarious. And I'd like to announce that I went to the new Ikea with Megan on Sunday, and Ikea is spantacular. I loved it. It took us about 3 hours to get through but it was worth it. We made lots of great finds. The parking lot was full, but the place is so big that it wasn't really too too bad, unless you're claustrophobic. Oh, and Barbara finally shared these pictures with me, and I had to share a few...I'd just like to say that we found these people on the street and left them there, no matter what the content may imply... ;o)

First, it's apparently not a night out with me unless I lick someone or something. Little does this guy know, I just ate a piece of pizza that I dropped on the street. Eeeew...dirty.

It wouldn't be a night out if we didn't find random Aggies (and one not random Aggie) and make them take pictures doing the SU pirate hook...ARRRR

If you give the stubborn ones a kiss, they'll join in with the hook (note how he wasn't hooking in pic #1)

Then we apparently make them hold each other like they're taking a prom photo

And I really have to say that making people from other schools do the pirate hook is an actual theme in most of the pictures me and Barbara end up with. I can't ever remember who the one with the school pride is that gets the people do to do it, but...go Bucs :o)

Ode to the Pet

I was just walking Saffy Safferson and one of my very nice neighbors pulled up beside us and told me that her dog has been missing since Monday. She said she opened the door and he ran outside and she thought he was just going to the bathroom real quick. When she followed him about 2 seconds later he was totally gone. On a lame leg at that! She is soooo upset about it, and it really makes me think about how much I appreciate my pet. I mean, who else would I talk to if the Saffy weren't here? It's just nice to have someone need you. When I see her cute puffy self on that red doggie bed licking out of her gerbil water bottle it just makes me happy. She's the silliest little dog ever and I love her. So...say a prayer, do a good luck dance, cross your fingers, send some good karma, whatever it is that you do - just hope that my neighbor finds Sammy because she's such a nice lady and she deserves it.
